"Cities in northern England such as Liverpool, Sunderland and Bradford are "beyond revival" and residents should move south, a think tank has argued." news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7556937.stmOr you could always just leave the UK all together.

Over-populated, grey and drab places in general is my feeling. There's no space bar a few brown field sites and the population grows ever more violent as seems to be the trend in such places. I agree Nick, there is sufficient anecdotal evidence to support the "trend" statement. Even Karlovac isn't as bad as some of those places.

The north over populated?
Liverpool is European city of culture. It's a fascinating city.
Bradford is green hilly and in the pennies.
People in Sunderland all have 3 heads and need to be contained without spreading them about.
Thatcher ruined the north, there's no question about that, but the revival has been fantastic. House prices here are still rising whereas in the south they're dropping quicker than a Geisha girl.

The north over populated? Bradford is green hilly and in the pennies. Bradford is (surrounded by) green hilly and in the pennies. It's a cess pit, even the football teams are both bankrupt. As for the pennines, a more miserable windswept wasteland would be difficult to find. Admittedly, on a sunny day they are stunning, there's probably been at least four such days this year. ...appen as like!

I'm not a fan of Liverpool, based on having had to spend time there. Let's see... there is the beatles museum, the cavern club, the Liver building (I worked in there and guess what it looks just like a cheaply fitted out office building inside) and there seemed to be lots of beauticians which is probably why it now seems to have more than its fair share of WAGS. The shopping mecca was the local branch of John lewis which was tiny compared to peter jones and with only a fraction of the range. Anyone with any money immediately moves out to Cheshire. It reminded me of Glasgow in a lot of ways (especially with the rain!)

There's no way that any of those other than Sunderland are the worst places in England... and I only hate Sunderland because they're my towns rivals. London's by far the worst place.

London is the most horrible place on earth and I thank my lucky stars that I am moving to York next month! I nearly spat my water out then, I thought you said New York... as it seems that's where I will be by early next year. York's lovely, I go there often... we'll have to grab a coffee.

No London is a great place, but you need money to enjoy it. Otherwise life there must be an awful grind. York is fanatstic too though. Good luck with the move. I hope it works out for you.

I'm not exactly on the bread line... moneys not the issue, I enjoy my night life. I don't enjoy not feeling safe walking around a city at 2am. That's one of the things I liked about Zagreb, I never once felt like I'd be mugged walking around the city at anytime. I was often in the centre at 4am + actually I was often in bars until 7am and then took a tram to work!

Capio, I wouldn't set foot in New York if you paid me! York is lovely, although I have only been there a couple of times, and once was for my hen night! London is the most dangerous city in Europe, and I would do anything to avoid it. Where we live in Surrey there is one bus every hour, yet in Hull there is a bus every 2 minutes. I didn't feel particularly unsafe on Zagreb trams alone, and on the few occasions when a drunk harassed me I'd just start shouting in Swedish which confused them every time so they left me alone! London isn't safe for anyone, particularly if you are like me - small, female, disabled and highly nervous. Good riddance South East I say!
