56th isn't bad, it's just not very good. The glass is half full. Half Full ? On one silver and one bronze , total , so far ? "Half Full" qualifies as Licaentia Poetica , wishfull dreaming or bunch of ( usual ) untruths , where I look from ; if anythyng , teams like GB and/or Jamaica/Ozz seem to get more medals every afternoon , than Croatia achieved in its Olympic history ? Hey , but maybe : they're just too brainy , to work juuust so haaaard , for a little bit of Gold ( which , in anycase is Down , to $800/ounce !!! ) Helluva sweat , these unbelievable sports events , maybe better lift a pint of cold Pan ? |

And I think Croatia just lost to Montenegro at Water Polo, but are still on course to retain Gold at Handball.

Just had another look at the medals chart ; couldn't believe: that some absolutely basket-case places like Zimbabwe have 4 ( four ) medals already , Jamaica 7 ( seven ) , then there's also little Slovenia 5 ( five ) , like the Czechs ... ...and what about the , supposedly : "passionately in-love-with-sports" Croats  ( Waiting for Nogomet ? ) |

Other countries have just got to face the facts..... GB has definitely got one of the best national anthems   It sucks, almost as much as Rovinj does. ;D Personally, the anthem I like the most is Russian, performed by Red Army Choir, but there are also a few other memorable anthem renditions on the latest Laibach album. Long may it be heard at the Olympics... congrats team GB  Well done GB.  . |

Congrats !
One small remark , tough : many medals they/we won , are in sports , which most of the backward-er nations do not partake in , or have not heard of , or can't afford the equipment/facilities for ...
...so say I , where Croats are supposed to be this Great sea-faring nation and : look at all the medals in sailing and swimming , won by the others , not least The Brits !
BTW , another country that has done really , really poorly so far is SethEffrika ; once , they were great in swimming , tennis , hockey , various other outdoor-sports , boxing etc ...;
now , they have the "world-endorsed" ANC-rule and all that's left of their "sport" are Rugby and Cricket ( sometimes !!! )

The GB anthem has been played more times at these Olympics than the Ruski anthem.....ner ner ner ner ner ...so if you Brits plan to go on collecting similar amount of medals on future Olympics, it would be nice if you changed your anthem to something worth listening to, for example to the Russian anthem. It's not uncommon for two countries to have the same anthem, you probably know that Yugoslavia and Poland had it. . P.S. Useless trivia: pre-Bolshevik Russian anthem was named "God Save the Tsar" ;D |

The British national anthem is appalling, lifeless and out of touch.... Scotland and Wales both have their own so, so should England La Marseillaise and Io sono Italiano make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up... especially at sporting events when everybody joins in. You wait until the London Olympics when free-style shopping and individual DIY is added to the events list. Team GB will sweep that part of the board.
As for the GB national anthem, each time I hear it I can only envisage a funeral procession. We need a song to reflect our Anglo-Irish-Welsh-Nigerian-West Indian-Indian-Pakistani-Kenyan-Jewish-Polish-Hungarian...ness!
Ooops! I forgot to include the "Sweaties".... but who cares?
