people should move to the country and grow their own food. ive always believed that that is the answer to everything. you dont even need cars. but no....people are too cool to do that.

People in general eat too much - certainly don't need meat more than 4 times a week. Not good for us.

Well,
The newspaper should do its research a little better. If they would have done that they would have known that in Holland an animal food producer has been working closely with the university for agriculture and they are developing food which reduces the amount of Methane gases animals breath out. And the solution is more simple than ever expected. They are e.g. adding garlic powder to the food and this reduces the Methane produced by cows with 80 %. It is still in an experimental stage, but this research is now running for over 3 years. So why should we reduce on meat etc when the solution may be not too far away ?

you wouldnt even need the internet if we all lived in the country. I'm sure you would be perfectly happy interacting only with your closest Croatian neighbors. ;D .

I am feeling rather smug, as I've been a vegetarian for 21 years and have never driven! ;D

mambo - be that as it may, it is a fact that our consumption of meat has a huge effect on the environment, not just with regards to gases emitted. it costs an awful lot in terms of grain and water etc etc to produce that steak on your plate. if we ate less meat, there would actually be more food to go around in general.
the UN did a report on this i think last year, called 'the long shadow of livestock'...it's worth reading.
and also, it is simply not good for your body to eat more than four portions of meat (this doesn't include fish) a week.
but then, i'm vegan, so i would say that...
