Apparently it's against the rules and the goal should not have counted. What I don't understand is why the keeper... didn't pop the balloon it had been there some time.

Ha ha ha! Just watched Steve Bruce's interview
1) He didn't know the rule (try telling your boss that at work!) 2) He didn't see it (what the hell else was he doing?) 3) His team deserved to win? (even though the goal was scored by a balloon)
Ha ha ha ha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Apparently it's against the rules and the goal should not have counted. What I don't understand is why the keeper... didn't pop the balloon it had been there some time. From a long discussion on the Sunderland board, it is not clear whether is was 'against the rules' or not. The rules seem to deal with an 'agent' on the pitch - but the rule is clearly defining an agent as another person. Not a thing. I think it was an unfair goal in the absolute sense, but as several SAFC fans asked - what if the ball had deflected off the beach ball AWAY from the goal; would the Liverpool fans have said; OH, stop play and have a bounce ball 4 yards from the goal line? You know the answer to that. Anyway, it was a Liverpool fan that threw the darned beach ball onto the pitch. Sunderland have had numerous referring decisions go against them in the last few seasons - 'bout time one went our way; you win lose some (or a lot in our case) and you win some (a few, so far, in our case). kesterj

It's definitely against the rules, it's been widely publicised here and the ref is dropped from this weekends games for not following the rules...
I can't remember every seeing it before... but don't trust the word of Mackems... They're still studied by Darwinists to show mankind earlier in evolution .
