Hello everyone,
So glad I found this forum. I have many questions but I will start with trying to find a competent English speaking lawyer in the Sibenik area.
As many of you are aware the property ownership can be very convulted in Croatia.
Briefly our goal is to buy out the remaining family members on a house and land which my grandparents used to own. My parents, myself and husband want to renovate and live there year round eventually.
The house/land was bequeathed between 4 people, including my father. The problem that has arose is that apparently one of my Uncle's in 1982 entitled himself to 4/5th of the land that the house is on and consequently bequeathed it to one of his sons.
My cousin now states that he is the owner of 4/5ths of the land that the house is on and the remaining 4 orignal own only 1/5th which means that we basically can't buy out our remaining relatives until we can have clear title to the deed.
After 6 years and several lawyers, nothing has been accomplished and no one can explain how my Uncle could entitle himself to land that wasn't his. Everyone knows my grandfather built the house, owned and lived in it and raised most of his family there, but we can't find any documentation now.
Since I have lived most of my life in Canada, my croatian is very poor and my father has a difficult time translating everything to me properly, thus I would love to find a good English speaking lawyer in the Sibenik area.
Any help would be appreciated and I will be on these forums a lot since we do want to start planning the move to relocate to Croatia. My father has finally applied for his Croatian identity card and hopefully once he gets his I can apply for mine.
