Hey Guys...
I know there are a few Estate agents/property people on these boards, so just a quick question.
I haven't paid the Agents fee for my property yet! I had it for the agent, I offered to give it to the agent...but he always did not come to collect or had some meeting to go to
Ok, the problem is that I had it for over year and a half and he has not even tried to contact me or my solicitor about it ....so guess what, because of finances I have now spent it (its not easy to ignore over 1000 euros these days) I'm a bit worried that this guy or someone else from the agency will pop out from the blue and ask for it immediately!
Is there some kind of law against this? can I somehow legaly make a stand and not pay, because it has been over 18 months that they knew i had this money and tried reasonably to give it to him at different periods of time, so now because of Hardship...I had to spend it
Thanks in advance....

weird! Did they have a contract with you where you agreed to pay this fee to them in return for the service? If yes, then they can insist on payment. After 18 months though I would guess that somehow they think they have been paid and have forgotten all about you. That agency must be doing well!

Denis, just send me your address and I'll send you an official R1 bill for that 1000 euro to help alleviate the feeling of guilt, plus remove all forms of temptation on your part to spend the money on trivial things that sustain life. I promise to spend it wisely (invest it in Croatia, not Nigeria). Besides, I have always wanted to be an agent.

this post has just reminded me that I need to send you that bill (by the way if you got out of it with 1k euros, then you are doing ok!) On the other hand the agent could be in the nick and not able to access his emails ;D

Ok,Ok....I set myself up for some your 'ribbing'
But joking aside, I am going to do some work on the property this weekend and I was just a bit concerned that this Guy may just suddenly remember...when I aint got it!
Carol- Yes, its in the contract....but also it states that the fee should be paid at the earliest convenience, which I already tried to do...twice!! I got no problem to pay...the principle of it is, that I have given him plenty of opportunity to take the money...and now I needed to spend it, I expect him to wait until I have it instead of demanding it instantly (according to the contract)

The chances are that they are no longer in the business and cannot now issue you the invoice.
The changes to the law have forced many agencies to leave the industry, the risk of getting caught trading without a license these days are quite severe.
Are they still in business do you know?

I just looked and yes, they seem still in business...cos of the website!, but it looks re-vamped to suggest to me that maybe its under new management.
So, in that case I'll just keep my head down and hope no one comes looking
