I understand that Croatia is completely digital now. I have never used TV in my apartment but the block has a satellite dish on it. If I plug in a TV with an integrated digital thingy (yes, I really know what I'm talking about - not) will it pick up Croatian TV? Will it work anyway without a satellite dish?

Yes, for as little as 120 to 150 Kuna you can buy that "thingy" Digital TV receiver, plug it into your TV and antenna and bobs your uncle. You can also buy a normal digital indoor antenna if you’re in one of the major cities and away you go.

Freeview Digital gives you a few channels but still worth investing in a satellite dish with an HD Satellite receiver for a better range especially if you want some foreign channels.

Digital freeview in Varazdin has HTV1, HTV2, RTL, RTL2, NOVA, DOMA, Kapital Net, Varazdin TV, Cakovec TV, SLO1, SLO2, SLO3, INFOTV, POPTV, TELE M. It also claims HTV3 and HTV4 but those spaces merely carry repeats of HTV1 and HTV2.
MaxTV is very good when it works. Our's doesn't work for 1 or 2 days every 2/3 weeks (the ADSL service dies with it) - this usally coincides with times when there something is worth watching like England's final day of the final test when the Ashes series was won - which happens maybe once or twice in a lifetime.

Or forget TV all together. all it shows it repeats ,turkish soaps and outdated programmes. We now have about 6 channels , all of them rubbish They are showing TOP gun this week, thats the star film of the week !!!!
If you want tv programmes or films that were made in the last 3 years its so much easier just to down load them off the internet.
You can download U torrent for free and is safe then, visit any number of torrent websites , such as btjunkie and just download the latest programmes, or music
then when you have about 4 - 5 hours worth of stuff just burn it onto a dvd. Set your torrent and your download at night and it will be ready for the morning

RTL2 showing Miami Vice from the very start is worth a watch- even if it is now somewhat dated in terms of technology (e.g. no mobile phones, except Crocketts car, so using pay phones ;D)- groundbreaking TV in its day mixing in the 'pop' music of the time into the action. Have to say that 'touch wood' in the last 2 years have not had any problems with MaxTV or my ADSL, so that combined with Sky and BBCi Player gives me way too many options, but at least it fills the winter evenings rather than supping pivo in the cafe or kicking the cat occasionally

Yes MAXTV is a saviour, as best cure for none procreation, less arguments with the wife, less thinking about myself, less movement, lights off in the living room all night long (thus saving the planet), kids sitting quietly watching TV (not making noise outside playing, disturbing the peace) and my monthly investment into the Croatian economy via my TV licence and T-COM.

Have to agree that TV is not that great, apart from the news and champions league we rarely watch anything.
Mind you we do have a 2 terrabite hard drive currently holding over 700 films and 25 complete "series" so there is rarely any need to watch TV.
Dont you just love modern technology......until it goes wrong. ;D

Forget all of that, DreamBox is the way forward. Full Sky TV, but much cheaper. Unfortunately it has meant me staying up to watch the cricket the last few weeks, so I am knaggered. Another alternative for sports fans is www.myp2p.eu - great for streaming if you have decent broadband.
