I'm currently working in London, UK for an Internet Service Provider. However, I'm starting a new job in Zagreb from 01-09-03 and I wanted to know if anyone could advise me on the best way of meeting new people, especially those from the UK or US.

I live in Zagreb. If you want the best out of Croatia, make friends with local people. Huge numbers speak English and are very friendly. Whilst I tie in to things like BCBN and the American Chamber, I also belong to things like Rotary, where I'm the only foreigner. Most of my friends are Croatian. It is easy to get in to an expat mode and miss out on a lot. I can put you in touch with an expat group if you want, though!

Welcome to Croatia! I'm Croatian and I live in Zagreb. Just wanted to say: I don't think there are some special ways of meeting people here. You'll probably meet a lot of people working, buying stuff...I'm not sure where to meet foreigners, but I think you should meet the locals-they'll show you the town and hot places to go to. And meeting the locals shouldn't be hard becasue they ara preety friendly (I think so...). You shouldn't worry about this hole thing. I'm sure you'll meet people and meke friends. Hope you enjoy it here! P.S. THE BEER IN ZAGREB IS GREAT! ;D

hey there Dan,
I was just wondering how about you came to decide to work in Zagreb and also where did you find the job? Was it from a contact in the UK?
I was there this past Summer and as all the previosu posts have said everyone is really friendly and no one has problems understanding or speaking english either ,which can be handy!

I visited the Dalmatian Islands with some friends last year and I happened to meet a girl in Milna, on Brac Island. It was difficult to maintain a long distance relationship so I decided to look for a job in Zagreb, which is where she lives outside of the summer months. Unfortunatley, our relationship has finished, but as I have always wanted to work abroad and experience another culture, i've decided move anyway. My flight to Zagreb is on the 30-08-03 and I start my new job on 01-09-03. One thing I have found is that the Croatian people are extremely friendly and i'm really looking forward to meeting more people.
I would be really interested to hear of you experince in Zagreb?
