Hi - Please can someone enlighten me as to the correct procedure to have a Power of Attorney form I have to sign Notarised here in the UK to be used by my lawyer in Croatia? Thank you.

Thanks January. I recall in the past it being quite a convoluted process (done it once about a 3 years ago and I had to sign it in front of a Notary and then get it stamped at the Commonwealth Office (I think?) and then back to the Notary again but I remember thinking at the time it semed quite convoluted. Does that sound right to you? Thanks.

I wrote a long reply which seems to have got lost. Briefly:- either wait until you are next in Croatia and do it quickly and cheaply at any notary's office or go through the FCO legalisation office's process.
AFAIK UK notaries are not recognised by Croatian notaries, although notaries from most other countries are recognised.

Thanks Carol. All sorted. I have got a Notary who will verify my signature and then the FCO seals it and an Apostille is added to the reverse. Fees are £60, £30 and £30 respectively ...... cheaper than a return flight but I would rather be there :-)

I usually advise a lawyer friend.. maybe the lawyer at work or similar as they cut out the notary and will usually help in return for a thank you! Then all I had to do was present it to the legalisation office (who have a postal service as well as a counter service) and then post it back to Croatia.
All a major PITA whichever way you do it, though. (Unless you happen to be walking past a CRoatian natary's office when you might get change from 100kn)
