Hi there, Was wondering if anyone knew of some installers of fire doors (rated: EI2.30.C-Sm) at a reasonable price in this area or croatia. All the apartment doors facing the main stairs in my building need them for compliance with local fire regulations. And the first local supplier is quoting HRK9500 incl. PDv (£1100) per door for supply and fit. Don't want to get ripped off as I have to buy 8 of them.. I can some type of fire door online in the uk for about £100. Any ideas? Thx..

Hi
Would need a little more information on the regulations that your doors must meet. This would dictate what extras would be required when fitting - smoke seal, door closers, hinges, handles etc. Also what type and specification of door.
Does that quote include new frames? If not are the existing frames old or fairly new? And do the frames meet fire regs? Would the doors need major trimming down and shooting in if being fitted in existing frames? There is only so much 'meat' you can cut off of a fire door before you have to start fiddling around adding new edging strips.
Quite a few variables to work around, fire regs can be a bit of a nightmare. The quoted price does seem a little high but then not knowing the extent of the work required it's hard to tell.

The quote includes an entire door system, frame, lock, hinges etc. the material is made of a combination of different elements including some steel.
The code I mentioned includes all the requirements in the door spec. EI2.30.C-Sm. (30 minutes; C - self closing; Sm smoke resistant. ). There is an existing frame made of oak, and I would have thought it could be used in addition to a fire resistant door to satisfy the local regulations. Struggling to understand why I don't see a lot of wood fire resistant door systems on the local market. Any help would be appreciated..

The opening is 205x98 cm which is within ball park of a lot of doors..

All doors are very expensive in Croatia (compared to the UK). We did up our house in London and bought really nice doors for £25 (probably from Wickes or similar). Two years later, we were living in Croatia where we found the entry level price was around £100.
In the Uk, you buy the door and the furniture seperately. then you get a carpenter to build the frame. Whereas in Croatia, all three things come as a unit, so you need to be able to say up front whether you want the door to be left or right opening.

I recently bought a door and frame from OBI for my firewood store. It was well over £100 but very poor quality with very thin wood for the frame, which is not even complete lengths of wood but short sections spliced together. It came with everything except the handles and lock barrel. I measured the length of lock barrel and bought one but it does not fit correctly. It needs a barrel with the fixing bolt offset from the centre. These cost about 3 times as much as the normal barrels so I'm making do with the wrong one!

I found the same, the doors are hugely overpriced and of pretty low quality. I know you get the frame and half of the hardware but for the price they are still poor value for money. For reference I just built, finished and installed this for a client for just over 300 Euros. It is constructed from solid reclaimed Croatian Oak and hand oil finished. Traditional rebated frame style, hung on 3 hinges with lock and handle fitted. Delivery and installation was also included in the price. So if you need new doors have a look around for local craftsman, building bespoke it not a expensive as you may think and you will sure to get exactly what you want and a quality product. There are plenty of Joiners about who would be happy of the business and your supporting local trade not big corporations. Its a shame to see traditional skilled craftsman vanish because they are be killed of by big boys selling over priced poor quality products.
