I've just spent a week in HR and when I come back - everyone's gorn mad. Posters - croissants - Woody Allen? I saw the "soldiers" trudging around Varazdin last Friday and a lot of flag waving and emotional speech making, I thought it must be a bit like remembrance day - but somehow there was something sinister about it although maybe the battle fatigues made it look that way - more menacing than ceremonial. Later I stayed a couple of days in Zagreb and saw the posters stuck to the Jelacic monument - Patriots? Nationalsts? Nutters? I don't know what to think. Views?

I was in the heart of it Ribaric and it was the most pointless excercise. It was like a bunch of Real IRA marching in Omagh today waving flags and saying how great they were! Okay, the Real IRA didn't kill so many and do so much damage, but same sentiments, plus the waste of money and time. It was funny how there was a major league rent-a-mob here who then were bussed out to Cavoglave for that gay guys concert, and it was such a laugh to see so few people at the concert in Knin that night, despite having a decent line up!

I have to admit irac, I found it all very disconcerting. There was a menace there that made me wince. I´m glad you witnessed it., makes me feel less like it was me.

yeah .its all dark and menacing. i am tired of it all. it is time to get croatia moving , the economy for example. maaaaaaaan. what are these politicians thinking? the intentionally forced crap economy in croatia is still responsible for the "need " to sell croatias property. the latest example is that event in opatija. cant remember the name. . aaaaaaaaaaaa..it is all crap. this govt is crap and shifty. mafia. it is obvious that croatias politicians are doing nothing .theyve even banned demos in markov trg so that they dont have to face their problems every day. the probs in croatia are obvious. yet they are still going on about history, wars, black tshirt , nationalistic music etc.. aaaa forget it . people here are caught up in croatias war while the politicaians and foreign scumbags are buying up croatia. causing economic and social instability and chaos in croatia , intentionally. its easy to fix the economic problem in croatia. just hire a team of foreign economists . as opposed to 1 ivan suker. why dont they do that ? why? its time that the govt here makes it possible for the people to want to roll up their sleeves and make this a better place for them selves and for their kids and to get payed for it . but these politicians and people are still in their circles of corruption , jelousy, and nationalistic historical events that enabling shifty investors , tied in with the govt , to go laughing all the way to the bank. croats abroad are also busy with their ustashe and tudman thinking . oo man . they will never learn. the collection of money during the war alot of that money made a few people in croatia very very rich.yet when these croats from abroad come to croatia. they feel anything but welcomed. alot of jelousy is directed towards them . its one big mess. soli pamet soli pamet . go back to where you came from. like a bunch of little kids at a soccer match amongst the hooligan crowd while the soccer players and managers make alot of money off of these sheep . eeeeeee

look. the people in croatia who work in local councils and in government are mostly ex hardcore commys party members. many of them with no real education. why do you think that we have this circle of the same politicians in power here , in the sabor..going round and round and round . and no new, young , fresh, intelligent faces. miksic tried and was quicly reduced to nohing. even after spending sooo much of his own money on his campaing ..he still couldnt get into the club. the media storys against him sprung up like crazy. glavas was all lovey dubby until he went against sanader . and then sanader showed us the power of the hdz hand of" rightesnouss" . where was it before? croatian politicians are a bunch of little power and money hungry little children. they have no interest in anything but themsleves. whats with skare ozbolt rally car driving? mare"ingrid" anticevic with her red laptop. whats her purpose in croatias politics. ? whats sanader doing? what about his election promises that he gave out on papaers ? many people are soooooo disapointed. but they will again vote for hdz next time. now can anyone explain this country to anyone? haha. a bunch of sheep

Valiant: "croatian people are hung up about the war" dude, maybe you missed the fact that when you wrote that they were celebrating the tenth anniversary of Oluja, and the liberation of Knin. But of course the way you wrote it it makes it sound as if croatians are marching in the streets everyday talking about the war. No one there talks about the war. i was there...they all talk about making things better. The politicians issues is a different story...but your mixing issues...and spreading anti-croatian propaganda wether intentional or not, and wether you realize it or not.

croam, his point was funnily well made (funny and well made to be better phrased). Here ther government are so hard on dissent, they tar people for daring to stand up to them, but hey, they have one of Bush's election officials running HDZ marketing (remember the last election in 2003? HDZ were shoo-ins from the start). They started sending out disinfo like Racan was secretly gay, like it matters when you're trying to deeal with an economy destroyed by the corrupt and inept regime you inherited from. Of course the counter leak was about Sanader's brother liking prostitutes, but that was laughed off as a sign of manliness.
The Oluja celebrations were ridiculously over the top, with so many people creaming money from it (the vast, vast majority from outside the region) and too many social programs put on hold because of funds diverted to it. Our own Mayoress, right winger as she is, did offer a word of dissent when she said the day was being hijacked by those who sat in cellars counting their neighbours money - at least she can honestly say she wasn't one of them, but she did take a t.v. set and magazines from her Croatian neighbours house after Oluja).
croam, were you in Knin for the Oluja debacle? What did you think of the rent-a-mob who booed the speech of Mesic and chered for an identical speak by Sanader? It was funny except it was frightening, at least until they took themselves off to Thomson.

walking to Split, no chance, all you had to do is wear a black shirt, give a fascist salute and you'd be stuck on a bus You're the lucky one, people here had to work with all the roads closed down. It was hellish, the only people who didn't mind were those who stumbled from buses, plastered, and were guided into the town. Oh, and it was a pain with all the flyovers, one or two were okay, in June, but weekly until the day of the thing, man, they could have saved money on fuel and made INA lower petrol prices!!!!!!

film/video...i was on vacation but got a 5 day gig shooting for a very well known US cable show....you probably saw articles about it in Slobodna and Jutarni... Tara Reid was the hostess. She hung out with Graso and did a photo shoot with him in Dubrovnik.
But getting drunk on Brac was hanging out with friends ... what i like doing best.
