Ford May Build a Plant in Croatia
The Ford automobile business has confirmed it was in search of a location for its production plant in Croatia, but Romania still remains an option. Ford did not officially confirm whether it was planning to open a production plant in Croatia. Sinj, Nova Gradiska and Rijeka have been shortlisted. HRT

Sinj and Nova Gradiska are out due to lack of skilled workforces and land issues (the Sinj government have already knocked a Renault assembly plant idea on the head, or rather Renault couldn't make it fly) Rijeka could go but where? Sounds like more election messing about - like in 2003 when HDZ had reps from Microsoft in to "open" a 1,000 worker facility in Split.

I think it is a beautiful dream but will never come about.
We have more than enough qualified people to work a car making plant.
I think Osijek would be a good spot for it.... you have many people that were forced to retire pretty early from many of the manufacturing jobs at many of the big companies there... who have the skills to do car work. Places like Gravia and Saponia... ect.
One can only cross there fingers and wish.

I imagine you have zero people qualified to work in a modern car plant, Ford and Yugo do not work the same way. Osijek doesn't have a particularly skilled workforce, we had to get engineers from Holland and Denmark to work in that area for high end construction as we couldn't find anybody local

You do not need to be a rocket scientist to run machines in car plants...
In America there are plenty of high school drop-outs and people that just have high school degree working at car plants.
There are plenty of educated people in Osijek... the problem is they keep leaving for Zagreb, USA, Europe and anywhere else they can find a job.
In America they claim they can't find qualified empoyee's that can work for Intel and they hand out H-1 Visa's to many Indians. This is of course a lie... the truth is they pay the H-1 visa people less than the Americans.... The problem is not with finding someone, it is an excuse to maybe hire friends in other countries or favors that need to be handed out or cheaper labor.
What is wrong with TEBODIN company....

You're both right and wrong in this, right you don't need to be a rocket scientist, wrong in that the regional workers are not particularly skilled - when for this particular industry it takes intensive training and re-organization, which is why you won't have a software development firm land in Gracac and just start up. The cost of training workers here is higher on average than Germany, Australia, Ireland and Austria (according to Knauf), and a lot is down to outmoded school (technical) teaching, and is very dependant on local initiatives. Plus the problems with staff turn over - 13% higher than EU average. While a lot is down to employers, a difficulty is where manufacturing companies choose to set up. Getting in a cheap workforce is only one issue, the same happened here in large construction projects, but while the wages were a lot better than average, cultural issues also come into play, again with regional variations. You do not need to be a rocket scientist to run machines in car plants... In America there are plenty of high school drop-outs and people that just have high school degree working at car plants. You do not need to be a rocket scientist to run machines in car plants... Irrelevant, you stated that people are already qualified, which of course is untrue. Had you said people could be trained, I would agree.

yeah..people can be trained. i know that most croat hard core commy educated beurocrats would lobve to see fords factory workers complete 4 years of uni. but a quick training course will do just fine!! yeah..and if we have to have a car factory(plant sounds to green for something so black) , it should be in the slavonia(pannonia area of croatia , since dalmatia inherited the ancient name i dont see why slavonia cant be called pannonia) , where unemployment is high and people deserve cheaper cars if they already have to drive them.

I am sure if all the Croatian people who are currently working in the VW, Mercedes & BMW factories in Germany were to return to Croatia, there will be plenty of suitably qualified people to staff the new Ford plant.

I am sure if all the Croatian people who are currently working in the VW, Mercedes & BMW factories in Germany were to return to Croatia, there will be plenty of suitably qualified people to staff the new Ford plant. And they will also be very happy to fall back from German wages to Croatian. ;D I see no problem with finding people suitably qualified for work in a car plant anywhere on the globe. I mean, working on an assembly line ain't exactly nuclear physics. .

the center of dalmatzia was actually in tomislav grad in hercegovina. but today...bosnians are bosnians. if croats in dalmatzia can inherit such a name, then i dont see why croats in slavonia cant be called pannonians? hungarians and austrains can also call themselves pannonians if they wish. but i dont see bosnians from tomislav grad calling themsleves dalmatians??
