Dangerously well put,. but what I'd expect from someone from Sibenik-Knin County. I have alwasy found it hilarious when people born in America, of Irish parents or grandparetns, believe that they are as Irish as anyone else. If they lived in Ireland they owuldn't be so keen, and besides, in Ireland they're viewed as outsiders.
On Prince Edward Island in Canada they have a very very neat saying: Born on June 1st 1900 in Charlottetown, PEI, moved to Boston Mass. on June 5th 1900 and died in Boston Mass. June 20th 2000, Islander X is dead.
Born on June 1st in Toronto Ont. moved to PEI on June 4th 1900, died July 1st 2000 in Charlottetown, X from Toronto was a well known person.
We need to get away from the nonsense of those who try to claim greater knowledge of the country by right of some drops of blood in their system and start working together, everyone, to make the country more attractive for development and if it means drawing in funds through property sales, so be it. It didn't hurt Ireland to open it's mind and it certainly won't hurt Croatia either.
And is it me or am I crazy, are a lot of those selling properties planning to get out of the country or live abroad anyway?

Ireland.....Done well with the EU. Very well, thank you. A changed country, give or take a few recent IRA snags. Croatia could well do as well if not better. Gortovina. It's all down to getting him and handing him over to the inquisitor, whatsername, Carla del Ponte. Political blackmail for sure. Who cares eh. Depeds how young/old you are. Many these things will not affect any of us, ever. Such is the nature of the internet messageboard. Meaningless. Come and live in Croatia, be a foreigner. It's refreshing. Educational, the whole experience. Staggeringly mind blowing in fact.

I guess we have done well alsdoubles, but one "snag" I think you must have mixed up your borders, the IRA is a problem int eh UK, we've no itme or place for them in the south, and sure the odd idiot and fanatic drifts over for succour, but the snags have been occurring in, you guessed it the United Kingdom of Great Britain and N. Ireland, but hey, once they have Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Iran sorted, the it's doen to business at home ;D
Seriously, this nonsense with Gotovina is just a smokescreen from Zagreb to cover the real depth of problems, economic, infrastructural, environmental and especially social in Croatia. But it's a lot easier to say the EU doesn't want any Croatians moving and working freely because of one war criminal, it guides anger and fury nicer back at "those awful serbs" and interfering mob from Belgium!

most Croatians who don't own any property for sale are saying that they don't want others coming into the country, being total hypocrites. there are so many croatians living abroad, and croatians are trying to say that no foreigners sholud be able to buy property? others who do have fairly nice property, want foreigners to buy their property, since they can get a much better deal or actually ahve somebody to sell it to. even if foreigners were allowed to buy property, it doesn't mean that the country would be plagued by them, since most are only looking for a second or vacation home. croatians are trying to follow expamples from the west, so they should finally also make this move to allow others to buy property.

Well put Dejan, with borders opening up and with eventual accession to the EU, those who are jealous of others who have property genuinely for sale will have to realise that we live in a very big and progressing world. Besdies, one of the issues forwarded was a loss of identity. and as you've said Dejan, many non-Croats want to simply have a second home, but others are working to preserve Croatian culture, something that the majority of Croatians seem keen to forget about in this race for modernity!

i dont have anything against foreigners as people. i actually liked living back in multicultural melbourne. but i really think that croatias politicians are stupid. they have no intent on improving the situation in croatia. they have made a mistake buy allowing foreigners of non croat decent to buy property in croatia. croatia , im sorry to admit , has a problem with its identitiy . we dont even know who we are yet and we are selling off parts of the country because people are desperate for money. as a result of our pathetic politicians. there are croats outside ,all over the world who would and could move back to croatia , with their children , if they knew they could be well off here.also the crotiain people themselves are detrimental to their own well being . homegrown croats wouldnt be able to take looking at their relatives from australia moving to croatia and then prospering as a family , financially or in anyway. croats are jelous and corrupt. and the more i live here , the more im begining to define this stereotype , i see it everywhere .it is a shame that croatia is in such a mess. we value our realestate but anything thats connected to the people here ..seems...isnt worth anything at all. we just came out of the war ,we are selling off our country, we are selling off our financial institutions , we arent providing incentive for croats to return home. by we, i mean our pathetic politicains , it is all their fault. incompetant , corrupt . wasting time with the eu while our domestic problems are just getting bigger . what is wrong with them i watched "otvoreno " last night. the croat eu consultant was like some kid from a local village, going on about how beautiful it would be to be a part of the eu but his aarguments were incredibly crap. the english guy was actually giving argumaents as to why croatia would be better off not sucking up to the eu and the hague. that just about sums up croatias politicians. have they heard of negotiation? have they heard of hiring a team of experienced ecoonomists to urgently help croatia? i dont get it . what is with this country?

Listen, If you have money to spend in Croatia, it does not matter what industry, just do it, the locals appreciate your business. When it comes to honest business, money talks, ....you put people to work, food on the table, extra money in their bank accounts, and the locals will appreciate your business. A Croat is a Croat and live it a that. If your heritage is Croatian, even better, you have more to offer to the sauce. Just do one thing....have respect for the land and its people. Remember one thing, God gives and God takes away. So count your blessings, whoever you are. By the way, whoever said about the exploitation of mexican people at the tourist resorts, think about all the people that run those Mexican resorts, watch and talk to them......they are all Mexican workers, from the garbage man to the head manager of the resort, everyone involved to run that operation, then think about all the products and services purchased by that resort. You think

ok gino. im croatian and what is it exactly that i have to offer to the "sauce" because of me being a croat? croats in croatia dont take offerings from anyone . especially croats from outside croatia. because they are jeelousssss. they will only take something from you if they are ripping you off or making a fool out of you by doing that . they will switch to auto reject mode and say that me and anyone else from outside has nothing to offer and that i "soli pamet" thats a saying that is dumb in itself. yeah , just plain dumb. no other word can describe that mentality . cos that thinking gets a country nowhere. eg:croatia. sweeping the crap under the carpet , too proud to admit they need help eventhough our politicians are corrupt and destroying the economy.croatia has sooo many problems from social to economic to legal and soooooooo on. that its just a waste of time talking about it . nobody cares.

Hi valiant, What I mean by "if you are a Croat you have more to add to the sauce", I mean that you take ( and you should ) take pride in your country more than others, you can express your love for your land in many ways. As far as taking offerings from outsiders: There is a saying : "garbage in...garbage out" If you bring in "garbage to the sauce" you will end up with garbage. My point is.... take it easy, use your "experience " and "wisdom" to better a place....it does not matter if is Croatia or anywhere.... By the way you will find crooks anywhere you go...its part of human nature, crooks come in many different forms, colors, masks, etc.....Croatians do not have a patent on corruption.... But does that mean you must complain complain complain? No. Do something.....create something,,,, make your mark .... put your money where your mouth is ( I mean this in a figure of speech, not in a disrespectfull way at all ) You will see that if you do good things, good things somehow come back to you...where ever you are. I remind you again, have respect for the land and its people. Bog. Gino

i have respect for the land of croatia. but NOT for its people. i came here full of hope. had the best intentions, i had the hope of achieving something in the land of my roots. haha. what a joke. i have nothing to contribute to this country . as i dont have any money anymore.(we have cointributed everything we had to offer to thiscountry )why do you think young croats even today are fleeing croatia and going to western coutries? you think thats easy?it takes alot to do that . im watching red carpet at the moment . ...ive never ever seen so many ugly rich guys hanging out with beautiful women than at these "elite" gatherings in croatia. just to repeat...i have respect for the land of croatia. its the reason im still here. its industrially relatively unpolluted , the coast is beautiful. but the people may as ell be in siberia. cos they are wicked and corrupt. corruption is sickening in croatia because even ordinary people are full of crap . jelous , proud, greedy even with the "connections" they have. in australia i never ever . i repeat . never ever. came across corruption. if it exists in australia it must be well hidden and have nothing to do with ordinary people. but corruption in croatia has everything to do with ordinary people. i have nothing to add to "the sauce" i dont intend to add to this sauce , ever ., im not even interested. if i had known better., me and my family ..we should have just bought a holiday home here on some island , preferablly no people within atleast 10 kms of the property. and then visited every summer from australia. that way the property can slowly increase in value. i can live and work in australia and visit croatia as a foreigner. yeah ...as a foreigner. without croat citizenship. hmmm beautiful. no body here gives a flying eff that i came here from australia. nobody. nobody will help you in anyway. its a trap. well hidden by the pride of the people that live here who are too proud to admit or even appear to be in the crap.then they slowly drag you into the crap and then you are nothing. there is nothing worse than coming to the land of your roots and having your own people feed you to the crocodiles. and its not like that just for me. ive seen other people come here and go through the same thing. ive seen everything from people being ripped off to becoming social outcasts ....intentionally made fools of , ridiculed by dheads with absolutley no mercy. ive seen handsome , guys who have evyrthing in australia , visit croatia for summer and hang out with relatives and "friends " here who do nothing but spend their entire time and energy thinking up ways to make a fool out of him. (sorry, my minds racing now and im getting angry ) i have this view that croatia would be a better place if the people had a chance to prosper economically . but with these politicians....absolutely no hope of that , ever. in my previous post i wrote that i disagree with foreigners buying property in croatia, i have nothing against foreigners . i think that if the economy in croatia improved and if people had a chance to prosper, including a croatian identity , a real identity. but the people here are making it soooo hard for themsleves, they dont see things that way. too much of their pride and jelousy gets in the way- ive cahnged my mind. i would like foreigners to buy croatia. all of it. if croats cant help themselves, id rather give the country away.

Valiant, if I am not mistaken you went to Croatia from Australia, and you are of Croatian heritage. I congratulate you on your initiative to talk about Croatian issues. I sense you passion , and I appreciate that you love Croatia. ( Otherwise you would not have come back all the way from Australia ) I also sense that you love the land and its people, because you care enough to talk about what you perceive to be their weakness. All the frustration you express seems to show that you care, to try to make things better for the people. That is what I mean to respect the land and its people, doing whatever one can, in our own little way, to make things better, we don't have to save the whole world, but we can fix our own house first, maybe the neighbor will do the same, and so on. We do what we can. Don't worry so much about the things you cannot control, unless you want to end up with ulcers. ( I dont mean to preach , but I only express my opinion with all the respect deserved ) So whether you like it or not, "you are adding to the sauce" ....maybe with Australian flavor, its all good. I say again....have respect for the land and its people. ** whoever and wherever you are *** Bog Gino

gino.you obviously dont live in croatia. i was something like you when i first came to croatia. all luvvy dubby. hahha. look at me now. a changed man. the real world hit me slow and then..... bang...real hard..all of a sudden. now...i have nothing nice to say about the country i chose to live my hopes and dreams in. gino. to live in croatia ...you first have to learn to swim with crocodiles . unfortuantley i had to take a crash course in croatia. and i still havent passed . integrity is something thats difficult for me to shake off. you would have no hope in croatia. your obviously a nice guy and if you are happy that way then stay where you are . you are living in the right environment for you. but you really cant comment on croatia until you move here ...and live here . and if you are in croatia ...then your obviously involved in some luvvy dubby movement with no contact with the outside word.

Ok Valiant, whatever you say. But if you think you got it bad....well lets just say you better count your blessings. In all the years I have dealt with the locals and Croatians everywhere, we have always had mutual respect and I find them to be first class people. Specially with ordinary working people. Croatians are the most honest and hardest working people I know....starting with my Father. I guess I am curious to know what neighborhood you claim to live in. For the benefit of the readers, there are fakes everywhere especially in the internet.... but I am sure you are not one of them, of course. Thank God, Croatia is a free country now....go for it speak your mind...first thank the many that died to fight for Croatia's independence, so that you may speack freely I wish you good, whoever you are. Just "respect the land and its people" Bog Gino
