Well, since this topic is still banging on....just thought I'll ask if anyone knows why a statue of St. George and the dragon, the patron saint of Brits. is doing outside the National theater???

Well, since this topic is still banging on....just thought I'll ask if anyone knows why a statue of St. George and the dragon, the patron saint of Brits. is doing outside the National theater??? Is that what it is. Never really noticed it. It's such a mad stretch of road that I guess I have always just kept my eye on the road, more then the statues (much prefer the walking statues out about in Zagreb these days, strutting their assets and summer wear). Makes it tough though to drive in a straight line.

St George... enemy of Roman Emperor Diocletian and patron saint of Georgia, you mean? (And England - the Scots have St Andrew).
I think the saints tended to share themselves around a bit... probably Croatia looks up to him too, whilst simultaneously placing great value on Diocletian's palace. Nothing like having the best of both worlds!

Nothing like having the best of both worlds! Got to remember that some Croat thinks King Arthur was Croatian, Marco Polo wasn't Italian but Croatian and the center of the world is Zagreb?
