Unfortunately, to speak and understand Croatian needs a hard disk of greater capacity than mine. These last few weeks have demonstrated that I have long way to go. Progress je jako polako
Why do people say "daje mi reci"? When they mean "reci mi".
A poet? Nah! Philistinery is my stock in trade but I am considering starting a society called "Using apostrophie's correctly". Wodgerfink?

Daj mi reci would be something like pray tell me. There is a slight difference, but it's so slight and elusive there is no point elaborating on it.

Midge, I think your English is better than Ghost's - but I wouldn't bother to guess whether either of you is a native English speaker, or has spent a long time in an English speaking country, or has worked really hard in school studying English. Or whether Ghost is just lazier about typing things correctly the first time, or what.
Plenty of Americans post to bulletin boards with far worse spelling and grammar than any of you, but in ways that are characteristic of just being, well, stupid.
but mostly, language isn't going to tell you who lives where and what their background is. And I think it's a silly argument to be having, personally.

Totally agree ABBE!!! ;D ;D
I have had this argument with one poster on here that does not matter where you are from.
It is funny but people point fingers and say you sound like this or you sound like that... it is very stupid. Instead of listening to what I have to say they are trying to determine where I am from.
That is why I never say whether I am man or women or where I live exactly. If I say I am women....men don't take what you say seriously. If you are a man alot of women think you are hostile or non-feeling. If I say I am from a small village than they consider you stupid or if you are from big city maybe a snob.... It is quite stupid that people think like this. Instead of listen to words and not thinking about where words are coming from.
It is what you say and how you feel about things. I don't care if you come from the moon or from a small village somewhere in Africa.
It is what is in the heart and soul of an individual not how well they can type or get their grammar perfect. It is what their thoughts are in the world.
I will never disagree with someone just because of where they come from or judge how they use words, grammar, whatever. I either like what you are saying or I don't.

Talking about food, why's Croatian lettuce so rubbish? Its not crispy enough. Maybe it is where you are buying it. Maybe it is old. Maybe it has been sitting in the sun to long. It could be a few things. It is quite good when it comes straight from the garden. Why not try growing it yourself. It is not hard at all to grow. ;D

It just don't get enough water do it! Comes straight from the garden all right! Mountains off the stuff! Probably too much sun, toughens the leaves.
Arrrrgh these important subjects! Off to krevet, laku noc!

Every language borrows some words from other languages. For example words found in English once borrowed from French: unique, torture, souvenir. sabotage, route, salvage, restaurant, regal, regime, queue, mortgage, debris, crayon etc.
