det eez ok because my parents talk like det but no one would ever say anything to their face. seems like almost a pastime in croatia. oh well.
the best was when i was ordering a pizza and i said "ja bi volio jednu quatro fromagio pizzu instead of pizza"
but i wasn't talking about using the wrong word but minor mispronunciations of machiatto. i think i put an u at the end instead of o or the other way around. then the "barrista" made some sly comment.

School reports for free, as long as I can beat the bad students who dont follow the pippo school of thought.
The new emiz would be the first to get a beating - crack on the head preferably.

Regarding pronunciations, I put my foot in it. We were on the way to Čara a winemaking village in the centre of the island when I said I was looking forward to see Čara, pronouncing Č as C. We all had a good laugh.

Just remembered when I type in the Croation stressed letters on my keyboard they comes up as something completely different on the screen in Norway. In the event this is the case for the readers here I type it using the letters in the "english" alphabet:
Regarding pronunciations, I put my foot in it. We were on the way to Cara (pronounced Chara with stressed C)a winemaking village in the centre of the island when I said I was looking forward to see Cara, pronouncing the stessed C (Ch) as a normal C. We all had a good laugh

I grew up with Irish as 1st language, went to the only local school, english speaking, and it was nightmarish. I then had to learn French in school, went to live/work/train in Germany and pick up the lingo on theway, then to the Middle East to learn Arabic, then Croatia, I think it was simpler when I stayed home!
But it is very good when someone does turn to your native tongue (or in my case, my second tongue) it's not a mark of respect, for the anglophiles or nationalists from that part of the isles, they can see it as superiority of language.
It's great in a meeting to just sit there, letting things fly around, then ask questions (in english) on something they figured you wouldn't get. Suddenly you have a little extra leverage.

Thats funny JJ!
I have to say that when I was in Cork 10 years ago a chick came up to be and asked to Cara!
Irish chicks are nice, an opinion not shared by my Italian ex.
Nice one though JJ, I had a good laugh!
