It's certainly looking grim for you Smoggies. It may bee too late by May 9, though I'm not sure if Newcastle can get many points before that. If they do, we might be in there with you. Were it not for the Albion (who look doom doom doomed) it could even be all three NE clubs going down.

We've had it... next season would have been fantastic had us and the dirty mackems gone down... like good old times. Oddly... I'm looking forward to Plymouth away and other such delights. Old Trafford and other similarly plastic environments have lost their appeal.

Capio, I would normally agree with you, and in times gone past I was as drunk and happy to see us drop down and actually win a game, and think it was worth it to hire a transit van between 20 and enjoy an away journey home. But this time I fear we will lose all the local lads, that's what bothers me. Downing will be off in any case, but what about the rest?

But this time I fear we will lose all the local lads, that's what bothers me. Downing will be off in any case, but what about the rest? Downing's gone... Tuncay's gone... regardless ...so do we really have anybody worth worrying about? Most of the local players (with the exception of Wheater) are championship standard anyway.

Tuncay's not local I couldn't agree less. The local players have kept us up over the last years. Underneath Robson we were just a team with a few superstars with a deep durge of talent surrounding them. But then the talent was brought through and in the last few years the reliance on decent local lads and adequate 'space fillers' have been without recognition. They made Maclaren look decent even though he back-healed a lot of them to begin with, like he did with Beckham later. He relied on them in a way he could never rely on the England players, yet he looked down on Middlesbro. With the exception of the WBA players, the 'surplus' will still probably remain in the Premiership, even Parnaby might be on his way back up. And as for being average, I don't think Woody, Downing and Wheater would look out of place in an England line-up

Well Woody's a different story... I'll post a photo another time of me and Woody in the same Nunthorpe side but he came via Real Madrid and for big money... We haven't really played that many young lads regularly in the last few years, they've mostly been back up. With the exception of Downing (who is by far our best player), Wheater and Taylor. The success under McClaren was based on Southgate, Viduka, Hasselbanik, Zenden, Boateng etc... not many Eston lads in that lot

There's gonna be nothing less plastic and big as the likes of Leicester, Derby, Wolves, Birmingham, the Sheffs, Southampton and Reading. The only difference is we are gonna have to be better than all but 3 of the others to get back up, but before we only had to be better than just 3 to stay up. Its gonna be a tall order, it'd be easier if we went to the Scottish League How can you be from the Boro and deny the success of the local lads from the North-East , we have been like the Athletic Bilbao of England. McClaren success was equally born out of strength in depth with a squad half full of Teessiders. They're all gonna nash off after this season if it goes teats up. Never mind, I'll be watching dinamo next season, one half empty stadium for the other What is EIO in Croatian?

How can you be from the Boro and deny the success of the local lads from the North-East , we have been like the Athletic Bilbao of England I've never been overly concerned in where a player comes from, all I care about is that he is good enough and puts a shift it, and I think it's a misnomer that our squad has been built around local lads. Turnbull only started playing this season, a bit hit and miss and out of contract. McMahon - very injury prone but I rate him but he's always been back up, again he's out of contract. Taylor - nowhere near prem standard imo. Wheater - very good. Bates, crock but a decent full back, out of depth in central midfield, too short for cb - always been back up and out of contract. Parnaby - very average player. Cattermole - reasonable player, but the move was best for all parties, his cousin plays for my team and Catts was just drinking his boro career away. Johnson - good squad player but yet to establish himself as a starter. Downing - excellent. I watch the reserves and youth from time to time and there's not much coming through... We've done well to get Downing and Wheater but after that I think we like to exaggerate how good our youth players are, on the back of the fact we won the youth cup, with a very good defence. Most of that team didn't make it.

okay, maybe not Athletic Bilbao, more Getafe, or some other unglamourous Spanish side Anyway, come next season I'll no doubt be making trips to Maksimir instead. Do you know 'Purgeri' comes from the word burger 'from the town', which is the same as the 'Boro'. That's my claim to finally watching a team that wins more often than not 'O boze fala ti, kaj purgeri smo mi.....'

I watched quite a few games there but found it impossible to care if they won or lost, I think once you're as deeply passionate about your team as we are, it's impossible to adopt another side. I watched the football but the novelty wore off... I liked the big games, especially Croatian national games but even then I spent most of the game watching the crowd set fire to things and throw flares.

well I think you'll probably enjoy a bit of that next season in the Championship. I think this conversation has done the full circle.
Enjoy Plymouth, I think the Grecians are about as European as it'll get for a while
