Hi! Thick English person here! Is anyone able to give me a totally unbiased account of exactly what Gotovina has been accused of, and what proof there is that he has actually committed the crimes that he has apparently been accused of. Sorry to all those people who may feel that we English/British should already know these details - but as the capture or not (as the case may be) seems to be the main reason that Britain is blocking Croatia's entry to the EU. to the "man in the street" this translates to mean that this man must have committed some pretty terrible things. Would be very interested to hear from people who are completely unbiased regarding Gotovina and could tell me what on earth this man has done.

Gotovina has not done anything to deserve to be hauled to the Hague. Through him some people in the West are punishing Croatia.
P.S. Please no insults!

www.un.org/icty/indictment/english/got-ii010608e.htmThe above link is the UN account of what Gotovina is indicted for. You can take it, or leave it, regarding how accurate it is, but it is one of the main problems that Croatia has regarding accession to the EU. By the way, some of the proceedings from other cases make interesting reading and in some instances I have seen a contrasting view from how things were reported in the UK press at the time of the incidents.

The Gotovina indictment makes an interesting reading: his duty was to quell the Serbian rebellion in Croatia. In such cases always inocent people die - Gotovina was not accused of directly ordering any any crimes.
Two more CRO General (Cermak and Markac) are being indicted by the Hague, and they were only defending Croatia and her people. Not fair!

What this country would if for example Pakistanis rebel in Bradford and declare an independent state and expell all other population. It would be duty of Tony Blair and the UK generals to put this rebellion down and again inocent people would die (Inocent people die in Iraq!)

we'll get it when we say "croatian" and they verbally attack you: "YOU were killing the serbs!"
as it was happening to some abroad in 1992/1993: "YOU were killing the muslims!" i can tell you this.
then when we apply for a job with a company of prestige. almost every such (electronic) form will prioritize the applicants according their acceptance to be displaced and thereby their eligibility to work legally in the EU countries.
there's no bright prospects laid ahead unless we take a closer look as to whom 'WE' killed......

look, the brits are peed off because they have Scotland Wales and Irelan that form part of the UK. If it was up to each individual country they would not like to be assosiated with England.
The fact is that if it is not Ante that is preventing croatia from entering the EU the Brits would find a reason for not allowing us in.
Just look at all the excuses they are using for the Iraq war etc ...
If it wasn't for Ante this site would be called VisitGreat Serbia and Croats would be eliminated.
It is a pity that our own goverment in Croatia can't get their act together so that we don't need to come here to make money and put up with all the we do just for being who we are.

This is general travel board and I cannot see how your - ivy and aljosa - angry and bitterness can help somebody get an opinion on Gotovina case? I am a Croatian, living in TODAY Croatia and fighting IN Croatia for a normal life. If you want to make money, I cannot see why you cannot make it in Croatia?! Gotovina case and what is involved around Gotovina's hiding is very complicate thing. One way thinking without arguments cannot explain the situation to somebody who would like to understand. Anyway, critizing and blaming others cannot make any good. Try to be constructive. And come back to Croatia and openly fight around Croatian parliament for what you think it's true!

Just to say that Ireland as a whole is not part of the UK- the British have retained 6 counties.

I am British but my great grandfather was Croatian so I have loyalty towards Croatia too. As far as I am concerned it is disgusting that Gotovina is classed as a war criminal. What the EU governments, the UK included, do not seem to understand is exactly what the serbs did and what sort of evil atrocities they carried out. Gotovina defended my great grandfather's country and his people - he is a hero not a criminal.

Rachet,
I am glad you think any one person can fight the Croatian Goverment, come out of fantasy land and accept the truth.
If it was easy to make money in Croatia why is there such unemployment and the desire for people to emigrate from there.
Any how good for you being there enjoy ;-)

Can anyone tell me why Gotovina was dismissed by your Prime Minister Stipe Mesic in September 2000? Surely as Prime Minister he should have sided with his own General?
