oh i messed up and thought mistook you for Barba Jare...
Barba is like "Mister" in croatian... or something like that... we always called my parents male friends "Barba" whatever their name was if they weren't related to us.
Anyways, i looked it up...Britain takes over the EU presidency. It will happen sooner or later and even if Croatia and Serbia join together they won't be any more together than Croatia and Italy or any other country. Its not like Serbia is going to take over the EU or anyone else anytime soon. I know that the prospect is still frightening due to their history together but I think the past is not going to repeat itself the same way again. And even with the EU's help there's no way Serbia will be able to surpass Croatia...at least the way they are going now. I hope your head feels better! I don't think your a barbarian at all! laku noc...or dobro jutro if you are in croatia...jeez...no wonder your head hurts you don't sleep when its time to sleep!!!

Fortunately the attitude of some of the UK's elitist politicians is a far cry from the common man. A Croatian friend of mine gave me these pics of British volunteers who went to help Croatia fight and to train its fledgling army. quote] Of course it is just political elite, in both cases (who ever said Croatian polititians are - angels) ... But somehow I don't like when someone apeal on me not beeing completly fair by accepting that "all Croats are same" ... Well, I am not some idiot hating UK or their people ... But it is funny to see how some persons from UK spread clear rasism over Croatians here ... Obviously because if they show it in UK (against anybody) they will get jailed ... So Croats come handy ... If all Croats are same, then how all this misbehaviours in society would be possible at all ? But fact is that WWI and WWII story never ended in heads of some UK polititians (and now idiotic Croatian polititians think that by re-explaining Ceoatias WWII history they will achieve something). Some "nostalic" polititians in UK (more jealous on power USA has - in reality) still dream about "Serbian kingdom" and Balkans region as "liberal colony" inside EU ... Of course they hate Croatia, because it's exsistance (and they tought it is "exterminated" after WWII) is only forcing them to make some "compromises" (especialy with Germany) which they will not need to bother with, if Serbia is "naturaly big" and monarchy (simply - Yugoslavia with Serbian king, same as after WW1).

yes star I met some of those brits who were fighting in CRO in 91 while I was in the army Mainly adventurers or petty criminals. One told me he came to CRO and he can not go back to UK because he doesnt want to pay poll TAX and he would be arrested and he ended up here. Some stayed some went on to fight some other war. You people miss the point here Just 3 or 4 days ago General Pavković against whom there is indictement in Hague for war crimes commited in KOSOVO (he was general of YU army) escaped from his flat. Indictement against him is exitant for months and months now and everyone knew where he was since he was not hiding at all. He was even participating in some talk shows on national Serb TV and could have been arrested and sent to Hgue. He was openly stating that he carries a grenade with him and if anyone tries to get him he will activate it. Well now finaly he went illegal and 3 days after that Serbia got a fisibility study for joining EU. Ok it is a first step to join EU but still its a political reward. yes they did extradite 11 smaller fish maily Bosnian Serbs (some were even in hiding in Russia ) but Croatia did as well last summer extradict their Generals Markač and Čermak and 6 Bosnian Croats. Croatia got kick in the arse for doing so and Serbia has been petted on the back. Im not even getting in to Mladić Karadžić story here who have indictment of GENOCIDE and ORDERING it not like Gotovina this famous Commanding Responsibility. Serbia still has long way to EU but that article Old guest posted shows you what dirty games are played over back of a small nation. And it has been like that for centuries in this part of the world. EMIZ fits great in to this lot

Haha, I can imagine. I hear you. Read this recent quote from Lord Paddy Ashdown and try not to drown in the hypocrasy. It's enough to make you wretch: www.b92.net/english/news/index.php?&nav_category=12&nav_id=31763&order=priority&style=headlinesThis guy makes me want to puke. For Croatia, Gotovina is easily within reach. But for poor Serbia, Karadzic is beyond their capabilities. What a joke. Notice the WWII and Tito references again. Why Brit elitists so enamoured of that butcher I can't understand.

I think it's a lot scarier that Romania and Bulgaria are closer to the EU than Croatia. Both are unsavoury places to deal in and I've never been asked for bribes at the border in SCG, Croatia or Bosnia, unlike Bulgaria where a euro note is always top pocket material.
gotovina won't be handed in any time soon as his delivery to Hague will mean HDZ wil be unmasked and the people of Croatia will see just how bad a situation the country is in. I mean, giving a young war widow with a 13year old daughter only 130euros a month to survive, and not even a free apartment, it's not even third world!

People of Croatia see very good how terrible situation is ... But after they finded out that all of them are "same", meanining - corrupt polititians, and those who are robbed (you named one of examples) people turned on inside ... they can't catch Gotovina on themselves, and they become hosstages of both Gotovina and UK --- so they will probably look for much radical options ... you are free to blame them ... And probably more they got pressed from outside, more they will really look like picture UK wante'd to create about them from beggining.
This approach is not some "rocket science" or "conspirycy theory", this is how world functions ... Just, some are smart and resist sooner, and some are not so intelligent and never resist ... like Croatians.

I'm looking for evidence to support what is being said here. I'm a Brit (with a German name) but I'll resist the temptation to jump to the defence of my home country. However there are some glaring gaps here.
If Straw and Mc Shane hold opposing views to Blair over Croatia, why? I certainly don't accept it was due to some old war-time allegance. UK politicians are like all the others, they see UK interests as being served or not. So which interests are being served by tacitly supporting Serbia and opposing Croatia? I don't think there are any - not visible anyway. This leads me to conclude that France, Germany and Britain are colluding in order to plan the EU in a way that suits their own interests - and they're not going to go public about them. The UK will not get a penny more income from supporting one or the other, but Germany clearly does not want Turkey to join (I think France and the UK agree but don't want to be public about it). So that's the deal right there: UK opposes Cro, France opposes Serbia and Germany opposes Turkey. It's all a power game and none of the big three look any worse than the others.
Please don't transfer your annoyance to the guy in the street, I'm as much a pawn to the UK government as you are to wherever you come from.

In support of what Ribaric unplugged says, I live in the UK and it is absolute rubbish to say that Tony Blair opposes Croatia in support of Serbia due to some WWII allegance.
You must remember that the mindset of the average UK person and the government is very different to that of the balkans. In the UK, nobody talks about WWII because it was so long ago and nobody under the age of 50 holds any grudges or discrimination towards anyone in Europe (Croatia included!).
I think that this is yet again been completely blown out of proportion, the english are not bad people - no way!. I have lived nearly my whole life in the UK and I am never discriminated against and on the whole the average person will only ever say nice things about Croatia.
So can we please stop all these consiparcies and theories and just deal with real facts and real quotes. Lets make our assumptions from those.
In response to comments about Gotovina, he is a war criminal just like Karadzic and Mladic, regardless of whether he was supported by the US or not. Regardless of whether Croatia was reclaming lands - it is well known that serbs who stayed behind were butchered and killed, independent reports can confirm this. It is irrelevant that he did not kill them himselves, it was under his command just like in the case of Karadzic and Mladic. The technicalities do not excuse the fact that people were slaughtered.
