Does anyone know where I could find vintage clothing in Zagreb? I collect 1930's dresses and hats as well as Art Deco jewellery and original movie posters. Any ideas where I could find such things in Zagreb? Your best bet is on Ebay or other types of auctions. More selection because you have the world to shop from. Good luck with your collecting! ;D

Very funny EMIZ indeed, very funny. I collect dresses that cost up to £1000 apeice here in England. I don't really do Ebay. My regular haunt here in London is Alfie's Antique Market in Marylebone. I was thinking more along those lines..

If you have the opportunity, go and see one of the plays staged throughout July and August as part of Histrion, the open-air theatre on Opatovina. This year's repertory: "Hercegovci za volanom", "Fric i pjevaèica", "Ljubica". Just remember, in case of rain the plays are cancelled, as it is open-air theatre.

I was thinking more along those lines.. Good luck.... Croatia does not have the Antique shops that england can offer. That is why I suggested Ebay. I think with time Zagreb will eventually have more antique shopes once they realize that there is money to be made in it. I have seen some amazing Couture on ebay. I have bought vintage jewelery and art on ebay and have had only a few problems. It is easier to go out of Croatia and purchase then bring in. then purchase online and have mailed... they get you for customs.... it can get expensive that way. If they don't know what it is then you can get away with customs charges. Which half the time they are ignorant to it being antique and of value! ;D

Brightside, just went back to MUO, it says EXTENDED in the right top corner. Perhaps it will be open till August 21! Sorry to go on about this, but I am getting excited about this exhibition.

That's just it, it already WAS extended! It was supposed to be closed several weeks ago or sth. and then was extended to 15 July. But I hope it will be extended again, it could be 'cos that happens all the time here! I'll make someone from the museum tell me the truth tomorrow.

For easy antique shopping one should try Britanac on Sunday mornings... it's a type of open air antique bazaar, but every now and then you should find something interesting... A lot of the vendors do come from Slavonia and Zagorje, where they hunt for stuff in villages. Although I presume it should be off for the summer, as everything is in Zagreb. PS Have you ever been to the REAL flea market? Jakusevac / Hrelic, just close to the city dumpyard has it ALL All of the stuff that gets thrown away during bulk garbage pickup gets recycled by gypsies and sold on Hrelic... It's a fun day out, though beware if the wind is blowing from the E-SE direction

You beat me to it. Hrelic is the ultimate experience for any flea market loving people. It's bigger and more varied than any other flea market I have ever been to. If you got there early enough, you can find some of the antiques that will later be for sale at british square for an inflated price. There's also a huge secondhand car market there, many cevapi grilled meat places(shacks), and a bunch of new products for sale also. It's definately a real Croatian experience ! Maksimir park is good for picnics, which is something most croats don't do. Jelenavac forest is always good for a stroll. Aquarius nightclub is pretty good for those into electro jazz groove world house music. Tkalciceva is a street up behind the main square with a lot of old buildings and many bars which are packed with all sorts of youthful people late at night. Mitnica is a very good Bosnian cevapi place near the cernomeric bus station. They have cevapi that doesn't leave you feeling like you've eaten a brick, and oven heated bread instead of the usual greasy fried 1. Popular with locals.Menu in english. Just hanging out on the flower square can be fun, a great place for familys to meet down town and the kids can play freely and safely. My place is always fun.

There is alot of junk but I guess if you look around enough you might find something good. I just can't be bothered sifting thru all the junk.

gav, where exaxtly is Mitnica? not sure I'd like it as if I'm going to have cevapcici the fried bread is somehow part of the experience.
I'd say another must-visit place is any open-air produce market, but especially Dolac for the sheer size.
I also like the museum of arts and crafts (muzej umjetnost i obrt), near the national theater.
and the botanical gardens, for a fairly peaceful and mellow walk.
