Mitnica is in Crnomerec, take Ilica just up the traffic light before the tram roundabout, turn right, 100m, park, cross Crnomerec stream. There's a big sign so you can't miss it when you get near.
It is a subsidiary of the cevapi place behind Dinamo stadium, so they have the same menu, including "voz" ("train"). Voz is a replica of "slow food" but with tons of grease...
I personally don't like their food, it's very very salty and greasy, they put too much pork in their sausage and cevapi ingredients. Presumably, you drink more if it's very salty, and you get hooked on the grease and come again. Do not reccomend.
A better place is "Cujic Grill" on Ilica, close to Exit theater, htey make porkless cevapi (as they should be - Sarajevski cevap) - only beef and lamb. No grease, very tasty. The place looks kinda sleazy, but they're good.
Also, if you prefer having some pork meat in cevapi, go to Marinero in Precko - it' very close to the Horvacanska-Zagrebacka crossing. Very tender cevapi, excellent sis-cevap, in autumn best adriatic calamari, but the best are their veal "ispod peke", and pite (both have to be ordered in advance, so try something else first and get their phone number)

I like all the coffee shops in Zagreb. I am a coffee junkie. I can never get enough coffee.
Zagreb is paradise for somebody like me.

I actually usually get cevapi from a place a little further west on ilica than crnomerec, there's a stand in the produce market there that's pretty good. I guess it is technically in kustosija.
but I was curious about this other place because I've walked around near crnomerec a lot and not seen it before. but I don't really ever go up that streat you describe.
the Marinero teletina ispod peke sounds good though.

Horse races! Place: Zagreb's racecourse, "Hipodrom" 10 – 22 September www.hipodrom.hr (the website is only in Croatian?! ) It's about time too. I live a stones throw from the hipodrom, I could actully sit and watch from my window. There are so few races, If they put more effort into this people would go. Think I'll have a word and try get a few foreigners there.

Yeah I know, Hipodrom is mentioned maybe three times a year in the media. And when it IS, it's because there's a (rock) concert to be held there.

Thank you all - fantastic thread! May I just mention my favorite patisserie (sp?) shop in Zagreb, Vincek in Zvonimirova street. Oh boy, I am salivating just thinking about it. They also sell first class ice-cream!

Mirko, if you like cakes and ice creams, try Orijent in Maksimirska - much more imaginative a class above Vincek, i'd say. (it's also an old cake shop with tradition)

Quite sure that this is not a good recommendation, but I found out about it recently, so here we go... Sports centre SRC Šalata, 10 September – concert marking the beginning of MTV Adria's broadcasting. Performers: The Hives, Siddharta, Let3 and... well, many others. MTV Adria will be the ex-Yugoslavian version of MTV. What are the chances of it being any good at all? ... Live to tell!

These 11 films will be screened: Twilight Samurai; Howl's Moving Castle; The World; Breaking News; Tale of Two Sisters; Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring; Samaritan Girl; The Eye; Memories of Murder; Stray Dogs; Turtles Can Fly. Hope you understand Croatian (because of the subtitles)

AD EATERS NIGHT, NUIT DE PUBLIVORA, NOÆ GUTAÈA REKLAMA! www.adeaters.com1 October in Vatroslav Lisinski concert hall (Vukovarska Street) and Zagreb Fair (aka Zagrebaèki Velesajam in New Zagreb). You'd think that when this started in 2001, people would initially have thought "why should I buy a ticket to watch commercials all night long?" … But of course, those are not just any commercials, like the ones that make you immediately change channels because you are sure they are seriously messing with your mind – all those detergents and false testimonies of good housewives claiming that this very detergent changed their lives! … No. The commercials screened in the ad eaters night are the best commercials to have ever been made – the most inspired and original ones, the funniest, the silliest, the smartest ones. And the ones you can no longer see on any television, for ex. Yves Saint Laurent promoting his first perfumes…? (Ladies know what I'm talking about, those commercials were banned in some countries). In short, the most controversial commercials from all over the world. If you are in Zagreb, go and see this. It is fun, people are free to react to every commercial however they like and the atmosphere is great. Just be prepared to endure a lot of noise (people use their whistles a lot). And if you can't make it, you can see the short version on TV in the following couple of days (not sure which one yet, probably Nova TV). But it is much, much better to see it live.
