Whilst I can't comment on your experiences with non-paying English people, I am disappointed with your view that the English are taking away your work by buying foreign property to rent. On the contrary, foreign investors are very much boosting the economy of Croatia and the Govt are benefiting from this as much as the locals - for every rented property there's probably a builder, an agent, a cleaner, a meal in the local restaurant involved - and I'm sure The CRO Govt is well aware of the benefits of that. It's a shame you have had a bad experience but please don't let one instance colour your judgement - I have used lots of local builders etc and there has been nothing but respect between us, (admittedly I have paid them!) Foreign investment is happening the world over and will not stop - try and view it for what it is and look at the advantages.

Chris Duncalf helped me to buy a house on the Peljesac, I can highly recommend him. I also used the Cancars for my building work, my wife and I are very happy with the work they did for us. Tim e

As one person wrote - at least I had the bottle to write about our experience. There seems to be conspiracy of keeping us quiet about our experience here. It is all TRUE and I would gladly meet in person anyone who disbelieves this to give them evidence of such - would a police report help to prove it.
Vera who wrote, is actually the fiancee of Zoran C. We have no argument with her and her wonderful family who have showed us hospitality on several occasions and both my husband and I are now very unhappy that this relationship cannot continue because of the connection with Zoran C.
We are happy to hear that Zoran is planning to sue us. We have video footage and pictures of the poor work undertaken on our roof and cistern and this is where the argument lies. Some other work undertaken was to a good standard and was paid for in full. We have no problem paying for work that we feel is 100%.
We suggested getting an independent assessment of the work from a building inspector and were holding back payment until a full report was presented to us. They offered to repair the roof by using the same method as previous, basically slapping a bucket of cement over the holes, which was clearly not sufficient to keep the roof from leaking again. When my husband refused to allow them to do this, it was at this point that the father of Zoran turned extremely angry and this led to him turning to violence towards us. PLEASE NOTE IT WAS US THAT CALLED THE POLICE, NOT THEM WHO NOW APPEAR TO BE SO FULLY IN THE RIGHT!!!
We admit that prior to this experience, we looked upon Zoran and Vera as our friends and were in fact hoping to work with them next summer. However, you live and learn.
This is certainly not a case of sour grapes - we merely felt it was only right to share our experience with others. We would also add that we have had nothing but support from other locals who look upon us as friends. Also, this is absolutely no criticism of Croatia, which we love and have no regrets about our decision to purchase property here.

This message is for Vera.
Vera, you mentioned that we had stolen stone from the Mayor of Kuciste. We did indeed make a mistake by taking 12 white stones from the roadside which we thought had been left by the road builders (there is a new road being built near to us).
We were in fact visited by Jerko, the owner of the stones and explained the mistake. Jerko has since offered to visit our home and bring fruits from his garden - therefore, this error was taken as such and your accusation can also be accounted for.
Please do not cast "stones" when your own fiance has appeared in the paper for stealing stone artefacts from old houses.
I would add that we never had any intention of falling out with you or your family. However, we have to do what we feel is right and we also understand that you have to say the things you are saying because of your relationship with Zoran. We are sad that it has come to this because we are very fond of you and your family who have nothing to do with this.

There are no SOUR GRAPES as you put it. You do not know me or my husband, and you certainly do not know what we discuss with anyone. In fact it is quite the reverse. When we told Chris that we were thinking of setting up a property management/rental company over here we were warned off. Another case of monopolysing and keeping everything exclusive.
I would not wish to work with or for Chris in any context.
I note you do not put YOUR FULL NAME or contact details - stand up and be counted like me if you wish to discuss this further.

Just to comment on my wifes postings - we do not ask that you believe us but do ask that you learn from our mistakes. We did not check thoroughly enough the credentials of the builders, trusting the agent when he told us that they were the best.
When you come to Croatia please call the police and check if a builder or any other recommended person has a history with them. We found the police to be very helpful, and they will find someone who speaks english.
Do your own investigation and do not be pressured by a property consultant, agent, or builder into something you are unsure of.
We have had incredible support from the local people in Viganj over our position with the Cancars and out of a bad experience has come a lot of good. Despite our problems we would recommend buying here as the people are lovely and the country is beautiful.

I am interested in knowing what services a property consultant would offer as compared to the services offered by a real estate agent. In travel the term 'consultant' tends to be used as a 'posh' name for a sales person.

To Karen and Bruce G
There are no holes in your roof. We agreed to a building inspector.
You have shown no wish to resolve any of this.
I explained we are happy to guarantee our work.
It is clear you have come to Croatia to force your way into business here and anyone who does'nt cooperate or agree with you is going to have a problem.
I have no problem with the majority of English people coming here to buy a holiday home. YOU have come here to force your way into tourism, building work and property transactions. That is not legal and not allowed here, the sooner the law catches up with you the better.

You know very well that I am four months pregnant with my first child. Knowing that you sent a VERY unpleasant letter to my family about these issues, causing alot of upset and stress. Normal people would have tried to resolve any problem they had with a builder directly.
It is clear that you are devious and vindictive, your postings on this forum make this clear.
If this is how you treat people here, you will not have friends for long.

I sow here lot of bed things about Croatian people, but I never heard some british have sometehing concretly against croatian, and go on the court? If I have wrong give me example! In other way there are few croatian people go on the court against british, (and other foreign people) to protect his rights! I have example. Everybody is welcome here, but you must respect our people. Sorry for bad English, but I hope you understend me, it isn't, my mother language.

More than happy to meet up with you next time you are in the area.
I am also extremely interested to hear that Chris Duncalf is sharing private correspondence (whatever the content) with other clients - HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL. I hope other clients of Chris are not being subjected to this.
I have no argument with you, not knowing you, but obviously you appear to have a keen interest in this and therefore I would be delighted to explain our case in person.
My email address is now on this bulletin board and I look forward to hearing from you.

To Zoran
In respect of your comments "no hole in our roof". We are happy to show photos or video footage to anyone wishing for proof. Or indeed, they can make contact with the Police Officer who called to see us during this incident who agreed we had a cause for complaint.
We are not here to exploit the Croatians, far from it and have made so many local friends since our arrival we have nothing to fear from your threats.
To Vera
The card I sent your parents was to say how upset we were that we could no longer visit them due to your relationship with Zoran. It was not vindictive at all and purely out of respect for the kindness they and you have shown to us in the past. Believe me when I say, we really do miss you and your family and I wish you all the best.
